Protests erupt outside Kasba Police station as 3 arrested in alleged Kolkata college gang rape
Indian Secular Front (ISF) MLA Naushad Siddiqui narrowly escaped injury after his car met with an accident in Howrah’s Ankurhati area late Friday night. A speeding lorry rammed into his vehicle while he was en route to Kolaghat from Kolkata around 11 PM. Fortunately, the MLA emerged unhurt from the mishap, though his driver sustained minor injuries.
The accident took place on the national highway under the Domjur police station jurisdiction. According to police sources, Siddiqui was traveling with several of his colleagues when the lorry struck the car without warning. The sudden impact left the passengers inside the vehicle shaken, prompting an immediate response from local police.
Police from Domjur station reached the spot shortly after receiving the alert. They safely rescued all passengers and ensured prompt medical attention for the injured driver. While MLA Siddiqui was physically unharmed, the accident left his vehicle significantly damaged.
Authorities have seized the lorry responsible for the crash and are investigating whether the driver was speeding or driving recklessly. The police are also looking into CCTV footage from the area to understand how the incident unfolded on the busy highway stretch.
An alternative vehicle was immediately arranged by the police to ensure that Naushad Siddiqui and his companions could safely continue their journey to Kolaghat. The prompt police response likely prevented any escalation or further disruption on the highway.
This is not the first time road safety has come under scrutiny in West Bengal. Public figures being involved in such incidents often raise serious concerns about the enforcement of highway traffic norms. Siddiqui’s supporters have expressed relief over his safety, urging authorities to take stronger steps against reckless driving.
